Paris Morning Mix

Finally! Now you all know what we listen to in the morning here. Sujata's been dying to know.

Notes: The Electric Six is my new favorite band. They have a song called "Jimmy Carter" on their new album that sounds like the Crash Test Dummies. No wait! Stay with me! The chorus comes after these lines "The world is ending, but 5 teenage boys danced and sang their ways into our hearts." Hmm. Who are they talking about? I wonder. Next line is the chorus, sung in a deep and melodramatic baritone: "Back Streets back, All right."

So awesome.

These guys are totally metamusic, and I love it. They take cliches from disco, 80's trash metal (think of every band you're embarrassed to admit you like), and techno. Then they blend in very clever lyrical cliches. They reference David Lee Roth's pseudo-masturbation/sex in a car monologue in Van Halen's "Panama" and "ease the seat back." They're so over the top it's outstanding, and their lyrics are all about dancing, sex, fire, and Nuclear War. In fact, their favorite rhyme seems to be "Dance Floor" and "Nuclear War:" hence the song "Nuclear War on the Dance Floor."

They've also got songs like Gay Bar. Click the link for the video, featuring Viking Kittens in battle dress.

If Beavis and Butthead dropped out of college and started a band with the musicians from The Darkness, this would be they. Check it out!!! My links (on the right side of the page) go to Electric Six sites. Try Lemon Party for the alternative Gay Bar video featuring Bush and Blair.

Oh, yeah! Here's the Paris Morning Mix. Notice it moves seamlessly between cool indy stuff like Editors, 90s crap pop/rock like Nelson, dance club ditties like Daniel Bedingfield, and Kanye West.
